FAQ

Mulching is an ancient and natural agronomic technique, today fundamental in organic and sustainable agriculture, which consists of covering the soil around plants with organic materials, with the aim of protecting and improving the soil, containing the growth of weeds, and optimizing resource management.

Main objectives of mulching

  • Limiting weed growth
The mulching layer reduces the light available to weeds, hindering their development without resorting to chemical herbicides.

  • Maintaining soil moisture
By reducing evaporation, mulching allows for less frequent irrigation, saving water and resources.

  • Protecting the soil from weather agents
The cover isolates the soil from heavy rain and direct sunlight, preventing compaction, erosion, and temperature fluctuations.

  • Improving fertility
When made with organic material (such as sifted wood from Concordia Servizi Ambientali S.r.l.), it contributes to the supply of organic matter and the microbial vitality of the soil.

  • Promoting root development
A more stable, moist, and protected soil creates optimal conditions for root growth.

At Concordia Servizi Ambientali S.r.l., we produce sifted wood from renewable sources, originating exclusively from plant by-products (grass clippings, pruning, green residues), free of chemical treatments and perfectly suitable for agricultural use.

Technical characteristics of our mulching wood:

  • 100% plant-based origin

  • Calibrated size, ideal for uniform ground coverage

  • Stable material, free from other types of residues, with slow decomposition

  • Compatible with organic farming (product included in the Register of Fertilizers for Organic Use no. 0035274/2022)

Advantages compared to other materials:

  • Does not acidify the soil

  • Is not blown away by wind or rain

  • Has a pleasant aesthetic impact in gardens and orchards

  • Is ecological and is biodegradable

Here are the technical steps recommended for effective mulching with sifted wood:

  1. Soil preparation

    • Remove weeds and residues

    • Slightly level the soil

  2. Application of mulching material

    • Apply a uniform layer of 5–10 cm

    • Avoid placing the material directly against the plant collar to prevent hindering respiration

  3. Maintenance

    • Periodically check the thickness

    • Add new material in case of decomposition or dispersion

The sifted wood of Concordia Servizi Ambientali S.r.l. is ideal for:

  • Orchards and olive groves

  • Organic vineyards

  • Family and professional vegetable gardens

  • Gardens, flower beds, hedges, and urban green areas

  • Nurseries and greenhouses

  • Forestry and landscape installations

Organic mulching is among the agronomic practices recommended in organic farming, as it respects natural cycles, reduces environmental impact, and contributes to soil regeneration.
Concordia Servizi Ambientali S.r.l.s is the guarantor of this process, offering certified materials sourced from a traceable, sustainable, and transparent supply chain.

The simple non-composted vegetal amendment is a natural organic amendment, obtained from non-fermented vegetal materials, such as bark, marc, pomace, peels, excluding algae and marine plants. It may contain peat in an amount not exceeding 20% w/w and must have a minimum content of 40% organic carbon on dry matter.
The official definition is reported in Legislative Decree 217/2006, the reference regulation in Italy for fertilizers and organic amendments.
